Cryodesiccation is a common and effective treatment for warts, using a controlled application of liquid nitrogen to freeze and destroy the targeted wart tissue. The procedure is performed in the office and typically takes just a few minutes. You may feel a brief stinging or burning sensation during the treatment.
After the procedure, the treated area may become red, swollen, or form a blister within the first 24 hours. This is a normal response and part of the healing process. Keep the area clean and dry, and avoid picking at any scab or blister that forms. You may cover the site with a clean bandage if needed for comfort or protection. Over-the-counter pain relievers can be used if there is discomfort.
Most warts respond well to cryodesiccation, but sometimes a second treatment is needed. If the wart persists, a follow-up visit in about one month may be recommended for additional treatment.
